Nothing exciting to report about my Thanksgiving. My family always does holidays very lowkey, so it was just my immediate family together for the usual Thanksgiving dinner. Actually we ate even earlier than usual for some reason so it was more like Thanksgiving lunch lmao. But other than that I basically spent the day rewatching season 2 of Arcane because my one brother hadn't seen it yet.

So the rest of this post is going to be Arcane chatter, sorry.

Unrelatedly, I did finish Veilguard earlier this week!! So I've got a big post about that to type up at some point soon.

Temporarily lost my mind and spent $145 on books!! It was the fastest I've ever tricked myself into spending a large amount of money lmao. I'm so excited for them though because they're gorgeous fan-design versions of The Last Binding trilogy by Freya Marske with custom dust jackets and printed edges.

The design's by c-leadraw, and they posted the original artwork for the covers here on Tumblr. I never buy special editions of books (even though I'd like to) because they're so pricey, but I love this series so much I knew the regret would be strong if I waffled over this, waited too long, and then they ended up being sold out or something. So I decided to just make them a Christmas present to myself lmao. The only thing is that for that price I wish they were hardcovers and not paperbacks, but beggars can't be choosers, I suppose. I already own the regular set in hardback so this will just be my pretty display set haha.

(The end of the year is such a dangerous time for me, I'm constantly being like "but it's holiday time, you deserve to buy things" sjhdfksjhdfs on top of these books I already bought some novellas I'd had my eye on, and way too much stationery/journaling stuff, and I'm eyeballing the current sale at Fangamer and some notebooks on sale from Tiefossi too. Help!! After all that + Christmas presents for my family I have GOT to put a moratorium on buying things until after the holidays...)


Other than that, I've mostly been spending my free time just playing more Veilguard! I'm close-ish to the end, I just finished story chapter 10 and am doing all the character quests to make everyone Heroes of the Veilguard at the moment. I did end up locking in a Lucanis romance lmao but I'm having a lot of fun with everyone's stories. Once I actually beat the game I'll write up my full thoughts.

I also watched the Deadpool & Wolverine movie. It was not as good as either of the previous two Deadpools, but they got their damn X-men nostalgia hooks in me so I still had a good time sjhdfksfhs I loved all the cameos (Pyro!! my god I was shook), I loved seeing Jackman as Wolverine again, I loved how stupid it was that Wolverine and Deadpool just kept murdering each other. I'm easy to please, I guess! (Except I'm still not forgiving them for what they did with Shatterstar last movie, even if they did bring him back. 😑) Unfortunately it also made me want to rewatch the entire X-men franchise, which I don't have time for!!

Extremely belated Happy Halloween? I hope everyone who celebrated had fun! I'm not super into dressing up or anything so I just handed out candy to trick-or-treaters after work, and that was the extent of my celebration lmao. The best part of Halloween is the discount candy afterwards, of course.

I did watch two slightly spooky movies leading up to the 31st, though! My friends and I watched Lisa Frankenstein, which is a black comedy set in the '80s about a teenage girl and a Victorian boy who comes back from the dead. They fall in love. There are some murders. It's a very funny movie, Kathryn Newton is great and the whole thing has a very Heathers vibe. Highly recommend!

We also watched Bodies, Bodies, Bodies because my friends wanted something scary and this is about as scary as I'll go haha. It's another dark comedy, kinda slasher lite so a little bloody but nothing you wouldn't see in a regular R-rated action movie, so if that doesn't bother you I highly recommend it too! It's about a group of young adults (and Lee Pace lol) at a house party who play a murder game like Werewolf/Mafia that ends up taking a dark turn... Definitely do NOT look up anything/spoil yourself on what happens if you plan to watch it, for maximum impact.


This past week I had some extra time off work, which I mostly used to play Veilguard and read books. I didn't even pretend I was going to be productive this time sdjfhsjdhfs. I did go out for dim sum with my mom for lunch one day, and we also made a gingerbread loaf that I've been meaning to try out for like two months now.


THE AFOREMENTIONED LOAF
We actually didn't have quite enough ginger as called for by the recipe lol, but it still tasted good! The recipe was from Baking Yesteryear by B. Dylan Hollis, who does those comedic TikToks making old-timey recipes. It's a lighter loaf than your standard gingerbread, from some 1910s recipe or something. I think I prefer the regular denser gingerbread, but this was still worth trying out.


Oh and Arcane is back!!! Season 2 aired the first three episodes last Saturday, I'm so glad it's back... Is anyone else watching? The beginning of this season is definitely just bolting through stuff lightning-quick, I'm curious where they'll go from here but lordy they are trying to pack in a bunch of stuff lmao. I need to see more of my son Viktor, come back to me 😔

(I keep seeing posts from people being like 'I didn't ship Jayvik last season but now...' like what do you mean you didn't ship it last season. They have been like this the entire time. Glad you've seen the light though, now you too can feel like a rabid dog over them. Speaking of, CaitVi shippers how're we doing after all that lol.)

It took longer than I'd have liked, but I finally beat my Dragon Age Inquisition replay and started playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard! Everyone has probably shown off their Rooks already but oh well better late than never.

A first attempt at Octopath fic! It may have come out a little overly fluffy but I had fun with it.

I wanted to write more but I have just not been feeling any motivation lately... Hopefully that will change since I also signed up for yuletide! Which I've never done before, but it seems so popular and people always seem to enjoy it, so why not. I missed nominations by like, a day lol but some fandoms did catch my eye thankfully, so I decided to give it a try this year.

Spent most of last week being sick, so that was fun. I had already scheduled a half day Monday because of an afternoon appointment, and I had taken Tuesday off for working Saturday, and good thing I did because I was already feeling pretty gross by Tuesday afternoon. Ended up taking off the rest of the week, which was nice in that I wasn't working, but also not great because sick. I'd taken a COVID test but it came out negative so god only knows what weird illness I had. I would've guessed the flu but I never had a fever so ??? But I'm feeling better now thankfully! A lot of last week was spent either napping or reading, which was nice if very unproductive lmao.


I've been severely slacking off on playing DAI because I got back into Overwatch aaarrghhh. So much free time now absorbed back into that dumb game... But oh man the new character Juno is very fun!! I sucked hard as Venture (I suck at DPS in general lol) so I'm glad we got a new support. And she's so cute, her VA is great.

I do still want to finish my DAI replay before Veilguard comes out so I need to stop putting so much time into Overwatch again 😑


I finally watched Inside Out 2 with some friends. I really liked the first movie so I didn't have high expectations for this one, but it was actually better than I expected. Not as good as the first, obviously, I feel like they tried to tackle a little too much at once, but they still made me cry lmao so that's a win for them I guess.

I also watched that new show Kaos on Netflix, a dark comedy modern reimagining of Greek myth with Jeff Goldblum as Zeus. It's only one season and of course ends in a bit of a cliffhanger with no confirmed season 2 lmaooo so I'm not expecting a conclusion. (I just found out they cancelled Dead Boy Detectives after one season too, I am coming for these Netflix execs with a gun I swear to god.)

But the story is a mash-up of the Eurydice and Orpheus myth and stuff with Minos and his family, both tied into an overarching plot where Zeus becomes increasingly paranoid about a prophecy that will supposedly see to his downfall. There's a lot of liberty taken with the myths, it's not a straight adaptation of anything, which I don't mind because I like to see what wacky stuff modern adaptations come up with, whether I think it's a good take or not lol. (Kaos writers I'm also coming for you for your one stupid Hera plot decision 🔫)

The casting is fun and there's some gay stuff, thank god because who's doing Greek myth adaptations these days without some gay stuff smh. Dionysus was my favorite because Dio's always my favorite, but I do hope we get a season 2 and we get to see more than the main few Olympians that were in this season. (Yes I am Olympian biased I will not apologize. Though my main man since my youth has always been Charon because I was a very weird child; he exists in this season so I don't have to demand his inclusion.)

July + August reading round up! These last couple months have been almost entirely graphic novels and fanfic, oops. I read one single real book for the entirety of August. But c'est la vie!

I've got a long weekend thanks to Labor Day so I'm hoping I'll be able to get some stuff done I've been putting off! Unfortunately I just started watching a new TV show and have been reading a wild amount of fanfic lately so I can pretty safely say that's how I'll be wasting my weekend. Anyone else have any fun plans?

Too lazy to write a real update so here's some bullet points.

☆ Forgot to eat dinner after work today so I'm waiting for my frozen chicken nuggets to bake while I type this up.

☆ The reason I forgot to eat dinner was because I was absorbed in attempting to recreate my DA Inquisitor in multiple Picrews which was of course a failed venture because he's a Dalish elf with face tattoos (and also not a lot of Picrews offer auburn hair??). But I did find one cute one I was able to make a satisfactory version in, please admire my son: ( + )

☆ Did y'all hear that Netflix is doing a modern Picture of Dorian Gray adaptation but supposedly Basil and Dorian are being made siblings. This is the funniest thing I've ever heard, I can't even BEGIN to imagine what someone's thought process must be like to suggest that change. Welcome back Sailor Moon dub version of Haruka and Michiru.

*covers my face* Don't look at me this isn't the anime/cartoon post I keep swearing I'll write up. The Dragon Age: The Veilguard release date trailer came out and I'm hyped all over againnnn. Everyone looks so good still, I'm torn on who I'm going to romance first--obviously I may end up winging it when I actually play it, but right now I'm leaning toward either Lucanis or Neve... I've gotta thoroughly plan out my choices because I can say I'll replay this game multiple times for everyone all I want but I know I'll give up at two playthroughs or something. Hopefully it's as fun to play as it looks so I can squeeze some more playthroughs out of it!

I also finally dug up the info on my main world states from the previous games, I couldn't find info on my OG Warden anywhere, I guess I didn't blog about it when I was playing it?? But today I suddenly realized I had stuff uploaded to my DA Keep from when DAI came out and lo and behold!! I can't believe I forgot my original Warden's name lmao Aeneas I'm so sorry. So thankfully now I have my DAO and DA2 world state info to refresh my bad memory.

In the meantime I'm still playing though Inquisition, I think this is going to be my "official" DAI world state. ( + )


While it's fresh in my memory, unfortunately, there's also The Umbrella Academy season 4.....woof. That was bad. And I'm notoriously lax with bad television. (I watched every single episode of Once Upon a Time of my own free will.) Cutting this for complaining and major spoilers but these are probably the same complaints every other TUA fan had so lmao. ( + )

Anyway in conclusion don't bother watching TUA S4, just watch Dark on Netflix, which is a fantastic time travel family drama that does all the serious parts of TUA way better.


Uhhh I also watched The Fall Guy which is that Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt action-comedy movie, about a "stuntman working on his ex-girlfriend's directorial debut, only to find himself involved in a conspiracy surrounding the film's lead actor," and that was actually better than I expected. The plot itself is pretty average, but the action and stunts were fantastic, as one would hope from a movie about a stuntman haha. And Gosling and Blunt are both fun actors that jive well together. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who likes action movies/cool stuntwork.


A while ago I mentioned making an AU prompt comm because I couldn't find any, then never brought it up again. Well now it is made! Behold au_challenge! It's got both prompt tables and a bingo card option. I'm putting the finishing touches on the info posts but after that I guess I'll just go ahead and advertise it. It's very low maintenance/has no deadlines so hopefully it can be useful to some people.

Whoops where did those posts I swore I was going to write go... *nervous chuckle* I just have not been in a writing mood lately. I almost want to blame the fact that I'm writing more frequently in my physical journal, but the stuff I put in there is just tedious irl minutiae so not even stuff I'd be writing about here lmao. It's stealing all my blogging energy!!

I also want to revamp my tag system on this blog but I don't know exactly how I want to do it, so I'm just chasing my tail in circles with that.  Maybe I just need to tag fandoms and things more specifically so I can find them again later if need be. How do you guys prefer to set up your tags, or do you just throw whatever onto your posts?


I have a bunch of TV and anime I've watched over the past few months, so I'm going to try and hit the highlights. This'll just be the live action post, having typed it all up it's getting too long so I'll just split it haha.

It's a bit late at this point, but Interview with the Vampire season 2!! Absolutely fantastic and just as good as season 1. Maybe better? Or maybe we were just hyped more haha. Either way, if you haven't watched this show yet, I highly recommend it, it's probably one of my top favorite shows of all time. ( Spoilers for S2 )


Sweet Tooth had its third and final season air recently. I've been watching this one since season 1 came out so I was curious how they were going to wrap things up. The premise of the show involves a post-apocalyptic world where a mysterious illness has killed most of the human population, while all new babies born are animal-human hybrids. ( non-spoilery thoughts )


Another Netflix property, I watched season 1 of Dead Boy Detectives. This is a fun little supernatural series about a pair of ghosts who decide not to move on and instead solve crimes. They meet their newest member, a psychic who can see ghosts, and various hijinks ensue. ( non-spoilery thoughts )


I also finished my Black Sails rewatch a while ago, and it is just as good as the first time I watched it! This is another one of my top favorite shows, one that's actually objectively good lmao. Season 2 of this show is one of THE best seasons in TV and James Flint is one of the characters of all time!! Basically I mention it now to say it is sooo worth the watch, if you've ever been on the fence about watching please know I am on my hands and knees begging you to give it a try. (And if you tried but season 1 put you off, it DOES stop being so blatantly a Starz show by the end of the first season.) If you don't watch it that's okay too, you should still listen to the opening theme, which, like the show, is one of the best opening themes ever lol.


PHEW okay I blabbed too much so that's enough of that. I'm not even going to reread/proofread anything I'm just gonna hope for the best. Anime-centric round-up coming next!! Until then, any new TV shows you guys been watching lately worth checking out?

Worked on Saturday so I had today off and I had a nice day out with my family! We went to a hibachi restaurant for lunch and then got ice cream afterward. Sadly didn't take any pics since I didn't order anything out of the usual for me, but it was all very good. ♥ I also got my purchase from Savenart in the mail today, which was sort of an impulse buy because I've been trying to behave and save money for the anime con this month!! But I'm a big fan of this artist and there were some sales I wanted to snag so I did make a small purchase.

I saw a few people mention fandomgiftbasket so I checked it out and it seems like a fun, low-pressure "exchange" so I decided to toss my name in for a basket. The reveal date is a couple months away so hopefully I'll have time to write some stuff for people. Speaking of lowkey challenges, does anyone know if there's any sort of active AU bingo or prompt comm on DW? (I did find one that seems to be active but it's members only so I can't see exactly how it's set up but it seems to be a monthly prompt kind of thing.) If not do you think there'd be interest in a really casual one? 🤔 Like no specific timeline, just get a bingo card or prompt table and fill it out at your leisure sort of set up. idk I want there to be some kind of AU prompt comm but also I have no time to be running schedules or anything lmao. I just love AUs!!

I completely forgot to post this last time when I was linking my recent fic, but for the first time ever I was the first person to put fic for a new fandom on AO3 which was so weird. When Among Crows fandom why don't you exist!! It's just me and my friend apparently!! Though it is kind of cool having the only fic I can find for a fandom lmao, I poked around DW/Tumblr/Twitter too but can't find any other fanworks. Which is also sad because I want other people to be into this book!! 😔

For the first time in forever I have multiple WIP fics going that I want to work on at once, and I have no energy to write anything. 😠 Maybe it's that I have too many ideas I don't know what to work on haha, but I'm just not feeling like sitting down and working on any of them for longer than a moment to jot down a new sentence or whatever. On one hand, having too many fics to work on is a nice problem to have compared to spending long swathes of time not writing at all, but on the other hand. Curse my slow and lackadaisical nature. I ended up claiming a pinch hit in addition to my original assignment, so I got to write two fics :D Both recipients left lovely comments and it was a lot of fun working on them because I went for two fandoms I'd not written any fic for before.

Sooo much Dragon Age is happening right now, I can't believe I'm excited about a DA game again after all these years sjdfhskjfs. I didn't watch all the Veilguard gameplay reveal stuff but the trailers look fun and I'm definitely interested in the characters 👀 Lucanis, Neve, and Bellara are probably my favorites at the moment (given the limited info) but everyone looks really good. And apparently we're visiting Rivain as well as Tevinter which are the two places I wanted in a game so that's cool. Obviously the quality of the story and writing will remain to be seen, but I am tentatively excited...

All the DA hype of course has me wanting to replay the old games, and the Steam gods heard my prayers because the entire series is 90% off on Steam right now!! So I snagged Origins, DA2, and Inquisition for 10 bucks total which is a steaaal please go get these games if you've never played DA before. Especially DA2 which is my favorite and the best of the bunch and I'll die on that hill no hesitation.

But despite that I'm actually starting Inquisition right now lmao I only ever played that game once when it first came out (female Qunari mage inquisitor who romanced Josephine) so I'm finally doing a second playthrough. I spent far too long in the character creator and even then gave up about halfway because I have no patience for tweaking all those little sliders lmao but! Secondly, creators were revealed for the unsent_letters_exchange! I went in a completely different direction than I initially expected and ended up writing 10k of original fiction (historical fantasy m/m arranged marriage) for my recipient, but I had a lot of fun with it. Literally haven't written original fic in years so I don't know WHAT came over me but it was clearly working for me lol.

And I received a sweet Star Trek (TOS) fic as my gift featuring Spock and Uhura talking about music. ♥ I love Spock and Uhura as besties so much and I think the author captured their dynamic really well. So yeah, my first exchange was a success! I'm glad I finally got over my reluctance to sign up for one.

Been spending most of my free time playing more FFVII Rebirth! The regional quests are dragging this out so much, I'd definitely be done or at least close to done if I wasn't determined to 100% every area. Hades 2 early access dropping out of nowhere is not helping me want to take my time finishing everything sjdhfjsdfs I need to play Hades arrrrgh. I've seen some spoilery screenshots of the new characters and art and stuff and I'm dying here! But I can't start it yet I need to focus on Rebirth.

None of these thoughts are substantial in any way lmao I'll try to write up something coherent when I actually finish the game. At the moment my main takeaway is that they did not need to give this remake the Hobbit movie trilogy treatment, they should've cut all this repetitive extraneous stuff. I don't mind the side quests and things that have actual character content but if I have to find one more lifespring or some shit!!! They're lucky I love all these characters so much.

It's been 100 years since I did a book update!! I just kept putting it off and then reading more books which only made me put off writing anything longer lol. But here we go finally!
