Extremely belated Happy Halloween? I hope everyone who celebrated had fun! I'm not super into dressing up or anything so I just handed out candy to trick-or-treaters after work, and that was the extent of my celebration lmao. The best part of Halloween is the discount candy afterwards, of course.
I did watch two slightly spooky movies leading up to the 31st, though! My friends and I watched Lisa Frankenstein, which is a black comedy set in the '80s about a teenage girl and a Victorian boy who comes back from the dead. They fall in love. There are some murders. It's a very funny movie, Kathryn Newton is great and the whole thing has a very Heathers vibe. Highly recommend!
We also watched Bodies, Bodies, Bodies because my friends wanted something scary and this is about as scary as I'll go haha. It's another dark comedy, kinda slasher lite so a little bloody but nothing you wouldn't see in a regular R-rated action movie, so if that doesn't bother you I highly recommend it too! It's about a group of young adults (and Lee Pace lol) at a house party who play a murder game like Werewolf/Mafia that ends up taking a dark turn... Definitely do NOT look up anything/spoil yourself on what happens if you plan to watch it, for maximum impact.

This past week I had some extra time off work, which I mostly used to play Veilguard and read books. I didn't even pretend I was going to be productive this time sdjfhsjdhfs. I did go out for dim sum with my mom for lunch one day, and we also made a gingerbread loaf that I've been meaning to try out for like two months now.

THE AFOREMENTIONED LOAF
We actually didn't have quite enough ginger as called for by the recipe lol, but it still tasted good! The recipe was from Baking Yesteryear by B. Dylan Hollis, who does those comedic TikToks making old-timey recipes. It's a lighter loaf than your standard gingerbread, from some 1910s recipe or something. I think I prefer the regular denser gingerbread, but this was still worth trying out.

Oh and Arcane is back!!! Season 2 aired the first three episodes last Saturday, I'm so glad it's back... Is anyone else watching? The beginning of this season is definitely just bolting through stuff lightning-quick, I'm curious where they'll go from here but lordy they are trying to pack in a bunch of stuff lmao. I need to see more of my son Viktor, come back to me 😔
(I keep seeing posts from people being like 'I didn't ship Jayvik last season but now...' like what do you mean you didn't ship it last season. They have been like this the entire time. Glad you've seen the light though, now you too can feel like a rabid dog over them. Speaking of, CaitVi shippers how're we doing after all that lol.)

I was tempted to watch that movie (Bodies) when I was at my parents' but decided not to. This is a sign that I need to check it out. From your tone it doesn't sound extremely scary so I may need to rope Ryan into this because he also can't handle scary.

It's definitely not scary-scary, more like a thriller where there's a lot of tension and a few startling moments. So if he can handle like, scenes where someone is creeping through a dark hallway expecting a murderer to jump out at them, he should be okay. I normally don't even like that kind of thing haha but this one is worth it I think, the casting was good and it was very funny.

Sounds like a good way to spend your time off! Your gingerbread loaf looks great. :)

Thank you! :D Normally a recipe like that is way too much work for me, but I get gingerbread from other sources so rarely I was like no...I need to try this. For the gingerbready goodness.

I am also watching Arcane and raaaaagh it's so good. I had a blast with season one and knew this one would also be enjoyable. The animation is so fantastic, seeing the love the creators poured into this show just makes me feel so elated. I used to play League with a few friends on the occasion and it's a miserable little game, but this adaptation really brings out its best parts (and characters) in really interesting and refreshing ways.

The animation is sooo gorgeous, I'm glad this season continues to hold up. The stuff they're doing with the hexcore and the flashback/montage sequences animated in different styles are so good. I never played League but I know a little about various bits of lore so I'm not going in totally canon blind, but it's funny looking at the reactions from both major League fans and people who like, know absolutely nothing but Arcane.

I'm excited for Arcane! I was very much on the Jayvik train and agree there is no amount of Viktor that is enough. I was actually relieved when I found out there were only three episodes out so far because it was already 1AM when I got to the end, and there was no way I was going to stop if there was more.

The Jayvik drama continues to slap, though it's very funny reading people's reactions to the latest set of eps who clearly didn't know any League lore whatsoever about them. I'm sooo curious what they're going to do with the last arc, like how are they going to wrap all this up...
