Been spending most of my free time playing more FFVII Rebirth! The regional quests are dragging this out so much, I'd definitely be done or at least close to done if I wasn't determined to 100% every area. Hades 2 early access dropping out of nowhere is not helping me want to take my time finishing everything sjdhfjsdfs I need to play Hades arrrrgh. I've seen some spoilery screenshots of the new characters and art and stuff and I'm dying here! But I can't start it yet I need to focus on Rebirth.

But yeah, random commentary from the Gold Saucer up to the return to Nibelheim:

• The Gold Saucer is sooo cool, I would absolutely want to go there if I lived in that world. Barret's like "this is the shit we're killing the planet for" and it's super dope Barret so it's okay!!


• The concept of Cait Sith is still so incredibly funny to me. Why is he Scottish. Did Reeve do that to him or did he just decide on his own. Given that Reeve has a real job he can't possibly be controlling Cait ALL the time so he must have some kind of AI or sentience but also it's super funny imagining Reeve roleplaying as an annoying cat fortune teller.


• It is sooo dangerous just releasing me into the wild to do mini games. Love that Aerith showed up like let's go on a date! And the date is just making Cloud play every game at the Gold Saucer while she harasses him.


• Cloud running down a hallway followed by 3 women and 2 cats: let's go lesbians let's goooo


• *Puts Piko in neon pink beachwear before the big race* this is how a professional wins


• This mysterious-gun-arm-man-who-attacked-the-Saucer plot is so funny with Barret having a weapon equipped that has 9 barrels and some kind of missile looking attachment. They're like "a man with a gun for an arm shot up the lobby..." Cue a lingering camera shot on the most ridiculous looking gun arm you've ever seen. Also the fact that both he and Dyne independently decided to get gun arms instead of regular prosthetics. What are the chances.


• Running around the Gongaga jungle is sooo annoying, thanks for that. The Crisis Core music that plays when you first run into Cissnei though 😔 Unfortunately I can't see the word Gongaga without thinking of the meme so that is ruining this slightly dhdbdjfjf


• The comedy of errors unfolding where Aerith and Tifa think Cloud doesn't know Zack but Cloud also thinks he doesn't know Zack and nobody knows Zack is dead but also Zack isn't actually dead. Also I can't believe Cloud tried to murder Tifa smh stop listening to your evil gay boyfriend, my man.


• Sooo happy to finally see Cid my love ❤️ Too bad it's for like two minutes. Come back Cid...


• Hojo stay the fuck away from Roche!!!


• Ugh traversing Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon is really getting on my nerves 😑 Thank you random YouTuber man showing me all the locations of things.


• Little baby Nanaki 😔 My silly little boy cat. I love that they just let him hate his dad for this long rather than tell him the truth. Weak-ass excuse for not telling him.


• Okay I made it to Nibelheim and the chocobo water jet move here is so much better than getting lost in the previous two locales. However if I see one more region exploration quest unlock I may cry.


• Them giving Aerith and Cloud a water tower moment only for it to be about Aerith being jealous Cloud has a bestie like Tifa sjdhfksjdfh girl I understand but now is not the time. The devs didn't even remove Tifa's personal effects from her remade house, she and Cloud are having a rough time at the moment.

None of these thoughts are substantial in any way lmao I'll try to write up something coherent when I actually finish the game. At the moment my main takeaway is that they did not need to give this remake the Hobbit movie trilogy treatment, they should've cut all this repetitive extraneous stuff. I don't mind the side quests and things that have actual character content but if I have to find one more lifespring or some shit!!! They're lucky I love all these characters so much.

I love when people post about FFVII Rebirth because I am never going to play it - I'm terrible at video games and I don't even own the right console - but I also want to know everything about it.

I wonder if they added all of those extra side quests and stuff because they know people love these characters and want to spend more time with them? but I can also see how that would be annoying for a game with an actual plot - and I laughed at "the Hobbit movie trilogy treatment," too real.

There's always youtube/streamers! It would definitely take a while to watch the whole thing but it's better than nothing.

I feel like some of it is just padding to make the game longer, because the sections between the towns are open-world areas where all the repetitive stuff is. And there's like, 7 regions or something and Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon are hellish to navigate so by the time you get to them it's like "nooo set me free." I don't mind the actual side quests that have cutscenes/character interaction since at least you're getting something out of it.

ngl I completely forgot Dyne existed until Barret's backstory came up in this game so my memory of the OG Dyne situation is basically nonexistent lmao. So maybe that was the case originally? But that still doesn't really make it better, does this specific surgeon just like to replace people's arms with guns?? Did he ask them first? Like no matter what way it happens it's funny sjdfhskfjs

Nibel is so much nicer to navigate following Gongaga/CC, I had no problem 100%-ing that region after taking a little break. But I haaaate the moogle houses, probably my most hated mini game in this whole thing!! But I did them all anyway because I hate myself I guess.
