It took longer than I'd have liked, but I finally beat my Dragon Age Inquisition replay and started playing Dragon Age: The Veilguard! Everyone has probably shown off their Rooks already but oh well better late than never.

But first, Inquisition blabbing.

I'm going to miss Aimeric sooo much, my precious bitchy boy. ♥

I still have my issues with Inquisition overall but it was a fun replay. And I think having an Inquisitor that was less of a stick-in-the-mud than my first one definitely helped lol. By the end, Aimeric's personal inner circle consisted of Dorian, Cassandra, and Sera. He was also annoyingly fond of Cullen because HE didn't play DAO/DA2, he just had a crush on the socially awkward dog lover.

Dorian's romance route was very cute, I wish we'd gotten more!! But I'm also biased because Dorian's probably my favorite DAI character. Every time Dorian said he was going back to Tevinter and Aimeric wasn't allowed to come with him made me sooo sad, let him come to Tevinter with you or else 🔫 But yeah I love their banter, they were probably so annoying to be around when they were together because they're both catty bitches and the rest of the team was probably like "can you both shut up." Romance goals etc.

This was also the first time I saw Sera's full friendship route because my previous Inquisitor refused to go along with any of her shenanigans. 😔 But Aimeric ended up being a little TOO much like Sera lmao, though I had to tiptoe through some of their conversations so she wouldn't get mad at him because this game handles her character/dialogue with zero nuance. I'm so happy she and Aimeric got to be rooftop cookie besties though. 🥹

Cassandra was the most surprising, given that Aimeric was very anti-Chantry, but they ended up being besties by the end! I guess having someone with him from the very beginning who always believed in him and still supported him despite him repeatedly telling her the Chantry sucked is one way to endear yourself to a person lmao. And Cassandra is a fun character, I love her smutty book habit and that scene in Trespasser where Varric tricked her into thinking the Inquisitor is going to propose to their LI jshfksjdshkj. (She's also the reason that Aimeric didn't make Cullen stay addicted to lyrium so Cullen better be grateful for that lmao.)

I took the 3 of them everywhere together for the Trespasser DLC and their banter was so funny, if there's one major complaint I still have about DAI it's I wish there was more frequent party chatter!

Sera: Looking for ruins and dead people. Why do I keep coming back for trips like this?
Cassandra: You return because the cause is greater than yourself. And… to keep us humble. You are needed.
Sera: (Laughs nervously.) Whaaaat?
Dorian: I’d guess the sparkling company and your continued contribution to it? I could be wrong.
Sera: (Disgusted noise and two fingers.)

Sera: Why are dwarves so short but carve their tunnels so tall?
Dorian: You should see the towers of Minrathous. Designed with all subtlety of a peacock with a croup.
Sera: Seen them.
Dorian: They’re hard to imagine if… What? What do you mean you’ve seen them?
Sera: I go places. Sorry, you don’t get to explain the topic today.
Dorian: (Disgusted noise and two fingers.)

Sera: The Fade. Not good. I would—(Breathes erratically.)—rather be—(Breathes erratically.)—anywhere else!
Cassandra: There’s nothing here you haven’t killed ten of, and then looted their small clothes to wear on your head disrespectfully.
Sera: Pfft! That… that helps a lot actually.

Dorian: Look at this place. Now that we have so many samples… how hard would it be to build Eluvians of our own?
Dorian: After these past few years, it would be good to create something magical that is also helpful for a change.
Cassandra: Is that wise?
Dorian: If I get around to it, I’ll send you an eluvian, Cassandra. Striking women can never be flattered by too many reflections.
Cassandra: (Laughs.) If you get around to it, shall I be forced to accept?

Dream team, tbh!

Trespasser ended with a hardened Leliana as Divine, the Inquisition disbanded, and Aimeric vowing to stop Solas. Can't wait to kick that man's ass in Veilguard. 🔫 (They probably won't let you, given how the game seems to be setting up different antagonists, but Aimeric can still dream.)

And then, finally, Veilguard... I definitely spent like 2 hours in the character creator working on my Rook and Inquisitor even though I'm sure the Inquisitor has like a 5 minute cameo at most or something shdfjshfds I was just excited to get to see Aimeric again, okay... But here's what I ended up with:

Introducing Ethari Laidir, a mage of the Lords of Fortune. Yes I stole his first name from The Dragon Prince because I couldn't come up with anything better. He's so beautiful I love him already... I am trying not to make him too much like Aimeric lol but he's definitely similar, return of the Purple Hawke dialogue icon I love you!! But yeah I picked Lords of Fortune because adventurous treasure hunter fits the cocky, slightly reckless vibe I'm going for, though Ethari is more frequently sincere than Aimeric, who was about as emotionally vulnerable as a brick wall. Ethari knows what to do with feelings, at least!

I'm not super far in the game yet, I just recruited Lucanis, so I've got him, Neve, Bellara, and Harding thus far. The gameplay as a mage is very fun, I think I'm going for a lightning spec because I love exploding things. The secondary weapon set of orb and dagger took me by surprise but I love it a lot? It's so cool!!

And all the characters seem fun so far too, obviously things are subject to change but I think I'm gonna go with my intention to romance Lucanis this playthrough. (Though Bellara is mighty tempting, she's so cute I love quirky annoying girls lmao. Maybe for my next Rook?)

Oh and here's my attempt to recreate Aimeric. I'm really bad at facial recognition so this was sort of a lost cause from the get go, plus just the drastic difference in style and graphics from DAI to DATV. But hey he's meant to be older in DATV, so, good enough! Plus I love this hair choice for him, he can't do that intricate braiding now but he still tries to attempt one anyway. (On the character creation screen it looks like they gave the Inquisitor some kind of prosthetic? I'm curious if they're going to say it works like a real hand or what.)

Okay this post was like 80% me going on about DAI/my Inquisitor, but oh well. Please no spoilers for Veilguard, obviously, but do tell me how far along you guys are/share your Rooks/tell me how you're liking the game!
