Firstly, an interview meme from [personal profile] svgurl!
1 - Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2 - I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3 - You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4 - You'll include this explanation.
5 - You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed!

1. Which book/comic/etc would you like to see adapted into a movie/tv show? Any thoughts on casting?

In between receiving this question and writing these answers I learned that the manga Hana-Kimi is going to get an anime adaptation, finally, after ending 20 years ago in 2004. Hana-Kimi was my go-to answer to this sort of question for over a decade. Can you believe that miracles really do happen.

So in lieu of that, hmm, Good Omens actually would've been my other answer sjdhfskjdfs if you just wait long enough eventually you WILL get an adaptation of something! Unfortunately sometimes it is bad, like what they did to the Runaways TV show. 😐

Anyway now I'm manifesting a uhhh Chrestomanci movie? Or a multi-season TV show of The Last Binding series just because I love those books and want more people to get into them. I'm honestly terrible at fancasts though, normally I just look at other people's suggestions and then agree or disagree lmao.

2. What are three things on your bucket list?

I don't really have a bucket list? Pour one out for us unambitious boring bitches. I guess getting to travel would be nice, I'd like to visit Japan or Italy, or go back to Montreal. Oh I guess getting a book published would count as a bucket list thing, but one I'm not actually trying to achieve sdhfsjkfhsf it would be neat though! If I ever wrote anything that wasn't fanfic.

3. Who are your favorite bands/musicians?

Kpop-wise, fave groups are probably Twice, Red Velvet, G-Idle, Dreamcatcher, Itzy. Sunmi fave soloist. There's a lot of other groups I enjoy but these are pretty consistently good imo, and I actually know the individual members and stuff. There's newer groups I enjoy a lot, e.g. Le Sserafim and Billlie, but I don't know as much about the new idols as I used to haha.

Western artists, I'm stuck in my high school/college days lmao I still love Florence and the Machine, Marina and the Diamonds, Regina Spektor, KT Tunstall, and Patrick Wolf, to name a few. In general I've always been more of a "likes certain songs/albums" person than a dedicated fan, so like, I say I like Megan Thee Stallion and Orville Peck and stuff but also I couldn't list more than a few songs by them shfksjdfs I'm the ultimate musical poser.

4. What is your favorite season?

No strong opinions about seasons sooo autumn? Spring is nice too, but mostly I like that sweet spot in the fall when it starts getting cooler but isn't actually cold yet. (I hate the cold!! Which I guess is a strong opinion about a season, winter sucks.) Peak weather is sunny but not too hot to wear a light hoodie or something.

5. If you could automatically learn three other languages, what would you choose?

  • Japanese for weeb reasons (I'm into a lot of East Asian media, obvs. Korean and Chinese would also be useful but I went with Japanese since that's the majority of it.)
  • ASL for usefulness reasons (since I work with the public.)
  • Arabic for family reasons (I used to be able to understand it as a small child because my mother and grandparents spoke it to me and my brother, but I don't know any now. All the relatives I've personally met have known English, but it's their second language so I just think it'd be nice to know.)

Secondly, creators were revealed for the [community profile] unsent_letters_exchange! I went in a completely different direction than I initially expected and ended up writing 10k of original fiction (historical fantasy m/m arranged marriage) for my recipient, but I had a lot of fun with it. Literally haven't written original fic in years so I don't know WHAT came over me but it was clearly working for me lol.

And I received a sweet Star Trek (TOS) fic as my gift featuring Spock and Uhura talking about music. ♥ I love Spock and Uhura as besties so much and I think the author captured their dynamic really well. So yeah, my first exchange was a success! I'm glad I finally got over my reluctance to sign up for one.

in your defense, duolingo is a great reinforcement tool but has questionable efficacy when it comes to learning a language outright. but i believe you when you say it's difficult for you! i actually find listening/speaking very difficult, as well. sometimes when i travel to a spanish-speaking country i have to resort to writing out what i want to say on my notes app and showing it to whoever i'm speaking to and i feel extremely embarrassed whenever i do it.

"what kind of poetry" is an interesting question. mostly free verse, i guess? sometimes i like to challenge myself metrically but it's kind of random when that mood strikes. generally short to mid-length. a mixture of 20% actual confessional poetry and 80% poetry that's written as if it's confessional but is taking the perspective of original blorbo who lives in my head. a self-indulgent excuse to smash metaphors together, more than anything.

i get you about trad publishing feeling more "official." i think part of me just wants some professional out there to read my work and decide it's worth their time, you know? like, i don't need the validation, but it'd still feel nice!
