WIP/Project List (Jan-Feb)

autumninpluto: A silhouette of Kana with red, glowing eyes ([onk] activate kana)

Why did I start on so many things lol

  • Jan. 19: FE Engage Rosado's birthday
    • Birthday art still not finished (coloring); also contemplating if I actually wanna line it but it's too far gone at this point
  • Jan. 25: Sylvix soulmates AU for Sylvain Angst Weekend
    • I have like. 200 words down. Actually idek where I wanna go with this and how long it'll be? Went into it with zero plan
  • Feb. 8: Blue Lions Big Bang fic final deadline
    • Currently reviewing comments and revising ([personal profile] etherealwill is an amazing beta reader and I love her so much 😭)
    • Currently sitting at 18k words but I expect this to increase to 20k once I am done with the other edits
  • Feb. 12: MHA Asui Tsuyu's birthday
    • Sketch & lineart done; laying down flat colors
  • Feb. 13-15: #ficwip hey, sweetheart
    • Fic 1 (BKDK) finished at around 1.1k words
    • Fic 2 (TDBKDK) wip at around 800+ words atm

I need to lock tf in tomorrow if I wanna post Rosado's art in time... though I always give myself leeway past midnight because I know it's still his birthday on the other side of the world, effectively giving me uhhh 36 hours or something idk I guessed the number.

I love him but there's something about drawing him that makes me give up halfway through LMAO this is the second time I've drawn him and lost steam, but I really really wanna draw my baby.

I also have some commitments irl so I might not be able to write or draw on some days... I'm past my GYWO goal for January though, which is good. I've been so talkative this month.

SGA: Take Clothes Off As Directed by Helenish

mific: (Sheppard bound)
[personal profile] mific
[community profile] fancake
Fandom: Stargate Atlantis
Characters/Pairings: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Elizabeth Weir, Aiden Ford, Bates, Patrick Sheppard
Rating: Explicit
Length: 11,848
Content Notes: Author chose not to warn - my take would be that no AO3 warnings apply, although there's dubious consent at times, when John's being harassed as a sub.
Creator Links: Helenish on AO3, Ann ciudad on Audiofic Archive
Themes: Crack treated seriously, BDSM, Complete AU: BDSM, Friends to lovers, Worldbuilding, Trope inversion/subversion,

Summary: John entered the Air Force Academy in 1987; it was only the third year subs were accepted into the flight program. John wasn't the only one in his class, but he was the only one who looked like he did, and it didn't make him any friends.

Reccer's Notes: This story is well known in SGA fandom, and it's also crack treated seriously. The cracky premise is that it's set in a BDSM universe - almost everyone is bi and BDSM relationships are the norm, so there's no homophobia or DADT - but in this AU there is discrimination against subs. Unlike several other BDSM universe fics which are very much idfics revelling in the crack of John/Rodney being Dom/sub and the hotness and romance of their dynamic, Helenish turns the concept around, making John the attractive sub, and making the discrimination and "sexual" harassment he faces lifelong, especially as a sub in the military (and how that affects his character), the core of the story. It becomes an analogy for sexism and gender roles, and his expectations about being badly treated by doms come close to ruining his developing relationship with Rodney, an atypical dom who isn't "sexist", which disconcerts John. The story's complex and brilliantly written, and one I'll always return to. Very much recommended.

Fanwork Links: Take Clothes Off As Directed on AO3
The podfic read by Ann ciudad is also excellent.

spindizzy: A cartoon of me smiling (It me)

Accidentally got desperately earwormed by a random vtuber/pngtuber who does super queer fantasy/horror covers and animatics. This is how I'm starting 2026.

  • Another Love Story by RafScrap ft Lyra Pyon — Look, I'm just saying I need the Princess Principal AMV to this immediately. Or like fifteen things with this vibe? I know that "Villain is violently murdered and then comes back to romance/'romance' the protagonist" is the plot of a bunch of villainess isekai and danmei, but what if more. (I've still not read Heaven Official's Blessing, but genuinely the thumbnail looks like monster!Hua Cheng fanart I've seen.)
  • Masochism Tango covered by Rafscrap and Gezeus Quiryst — WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU MADE A HORNY VERSION OF A TOM LEHRER SONG. THAT'S ILLEGAL. WHAT ARE YOU DOING. ... It's going on my Disaster Lesbian Who Flirts With Every Woman Who Tries To Kill Her playlist though. For obvious reasons. (The obvious reasons also explain why I saw so many comments being like "Gomez and Morticia Addams ♥".)
  • Monster High's Fright Song covered by RafScrap ft. Gezeus Quiryst & Mortius — Did everyone know that Monster High had a song? Did I just miss that one?
  • The Serpent and the Starving Girl by Rafscrap — I'm 90% certain this song/animatic is "What if a gay devil tempts a woman who was cast aside by her duplicitous married lover during the Salem Witch Trials" and I'm... More into it than I expected? The way the rage cracks out over "Didn't he promise" is fantastic.
  • Monster covered by Rafscrap and Gezeus Quiryst — I spent a solid two hours doing a dance party/tidying spree to this one song because it's got the right energy level for it. I'm also irrationally convinced that the originally song was a voicaloid song (based on the only other song I know by Kira being vocaloid; sorry Kira), so that would explain some of the scanning/syllable stressing going on.
  • Goddess covered by Rafscrap — I really like the rhythm of chanting the goddesses' names, ngl. And even if I have no idea what is going on with the story, I'm enjoying the art and the body horror!
  • Hell Again by Ironmouse — And just for the sake of this post not being one person: a different vtuber! XD I was watching the video like "Damn, this looks like RWBY," and then according to the comments the lead artist actually worked on RWBY. Yeah, fair, I guess that would do it! And would explain the fights looking pretty good!

Snowflake Challenge #9

soricel: (Default)
Talk about your favorite tropes in media or transformative works. (Feel free to substitute in theme/motif/cliche if "trope" doesn't resonate with you.)

Often when I'm reading a book or watching a show, I find myself wishing all the *plot* would stop so the characters could just hang out. I like quiet moments and small but significant gestures; I like seeing how characters interact when they're not trying to do Some Big Thing but rather navigating mundane reality together. So I tend to like slice-of-life type stuff, especially post-canon/future fics set after the dust settles and people have to try to adjust to a new normal, or to deal with some emotional stuff that was left unaddressed while they were busy trying to do Some Big Thing. I'm also less interested in seeing people get together or live happily ever after than wrestling with some challenges related to how exactly they want to be parts of each other's lives.

I've also always been really drawn to the theme of mind control. I can trace this interest to a specific moment in my childhood, when I caught a glimpse of some weird live-action Transformers performance at the local mall. One of the human characters--I forget who--had gotten their mind zapped by some villain (if anyone reading this is a Transformers person, maybe you have some idea who I might be talking about), and I found it simultaneously terrifying and captivating. I think I've always been interested in questions about why we think what we think, to what extent our thoughts are our own, and how our conscious and unconscious minds interact with each other.

That said, I don't tend to seek out fics based on tropes or themes; there are plenty of stories that have some of these elements but just didn't do anything for me, as well as fics that I found beautifully written but feature characters and tropes I'm generally disinterested in. I think I tend to be drawn to language first and foremost.

And *that* said, if anyone has any fic recs that sound similar to anything I described above, please feel free to share!

Fandom Trees and Snowflake day 9 (tropes)

hamsterwoman: (Ghosts BBC -- Thomas)
[community profile] fandomtrees pulled through with reveals this weekend! I got an adorable harried spider prepping for the holidays, a lovely crop of Discworld icons from illustrations and movie adaptations, and the cozy Elis & John AU of my dreams.

I left some recs/recipes, but my creative endeavors this time around were limited to this:

[personal profile] sysann requested, among many other fun crossover ideas, a Dragaera/Ghosts UK crossover wherein the Dragaerans find themselves in Button House. Here’s what I wrote:

(If you’re not familiar with Dragaera, all you need to know is that Aliera is a particularly haughty member of a Proud Warrior Race who are en masse extremely touchy about their honor and love to fight duels about it. She is sensitive about her height and levitates to appear taller, and her normally-green eyes turn blue when she’s angry.

If you’re not familiar with Ghosts UK, all you need to know is that Thomas is the ghost of a (bad) Regency era poet, who is an oblivious romantic who died in a duel over a lady’s honor.)

Dragaera/Ghosts UK, Thomas Thorne, Aliera e’Kieron, terrible poetry )

I think this time around, I’ll just go with the tropes that are making my current reading – To Shape a Dragon’s Breath – such a fun and this-book-was-written-just-for-me reading experience :)

I'm already having a great time doing [community profile] threesentenceficathon. Pimping my guys, mostly, I admit. 😉

I'm almost finished with my fic for [community profile] smallfandomfest . All it needs is the sex scene, so naturally I'm procrastinating. But guess what, it's the longest fic I've written since 2019! Looks like I might be finally going to start writing some longer stuff again. Amazing what an extra dose of inspiration can do...

HELP! I just don't know... I've always posted my drabbles to AO3 as 'chapters' in a drabble collection... Some people think that's "cheating". I'm thinking of posting them separately now -- but honestly, to me that feels like 'padding' my story count. I'm so undecided.

With the Dawn by [archiveofourown.org profile] SweetSorcery
Fandom: Kidnapped! (Davie/Alan)
Word Count: 1,300
Rating: General
Summary: Alan's own safety is worth very little to him, if it means leaving David behind ill and defenseless.
Notes: I've missed so much fic in this fandom, and was really happy to read this one from last year. The sweetest lil h/c missing scene from the book. Great voices for both of them, and very tender.

The Worst Part of Waking Up by [archiveofourown.org profile] Sanguinity
Fandom: Hornblower (William/Horatio)
Word Count: 6,600
Rating: Teen
Summary: At the end of "Loyalty," Bush is too late to save Hornblower. With his dying breath, Hornblower requests a kiss from Bush… …only to wake up a week later and discover he's going to live after all. Damnit.
Notes: More very excellent h/c featuring Horatio Hornblower being Olympic levels of Bad at Feelings. Also extremely sweet, once he gets his shit together. I love the tag: "When He Made This Bed He Wasn't Expecting to Wake Up In It"!

Tractor Beam: The Valley in Thaw by Elizabeth Porter Birdsall and Xiang Yata.

Great selection, open for another couple weeks. You get epubs, not the weird kobo link thing.

I really wish they'd announce this earlier so you could take a proper shot at the long list before they drop the shortlist. I'm like half way through one of these. Lots of hockey books this year. Hmmmm.

Creative Jam

[personal profile] ysabetwordsmith
[community profile] crowdfunding
Welcome to the 150th Crowdfunding Creative Jam! This session will run Saturday, January 17-Sunday, January 18. The theme is "Memories."

Crowdfunding Creative Jam

Everyone is eligible to post prompts, which may be words or phrases, titles, images, etc. Prompters may request a specific creator, but everyone else may still use that prompt if they wish. Prompts may specify a particular character/world/etc. but creators may use the prompt for something else anyway and post the results. Prompters are still encouraged to post mostly prompts that anyone could use anywhere, as this maximizes the chance of having creators make something based on your prompt. Please title your comment "Prompt" or "Prompts" when providing inspiration so these are easy to find.

Prompt responses may also be treated as prompts and used for further inspiration. For example, a prompt may lead to a sketch which leads to a story, and so on. This kind of cascading inspiration is one of the most fun things about a collective jam session.

Everyone is eligible to use prompts, and everyone who wants to use a given prompt may do so, for maximum flexibility of creator choice in inspiration. You do not have to post a "Claim" reply when you decide to use a prompt, but this does help indicate what is going on so that other prompters can spread out their choice of prompts if they wish.

Creators are encouraged, but not required, to post at least one item free. Likewise, sharing a private copy of material with the prompter is encouraged but not required. Creative material resulting from prompts should be indicated in a reply to the prompt, with a link to the full content elsewhere on the creator's site (if desired); a brief excerpt and/or description of the material may be included in the reply (if desired). It helps to title your comment "Prompt Filled" or something like that so these are easy to identify. There is no time limit on responding to prompts. However, creators are encouraged to post replies sooner rather than later, as the attention of prompters will be highest during and shortly after the session.

Some items created from prompts may become available for sponsorship. Some creators may offer perks for donations, linkbacks, or other activity relating to this project. Check creator comments and links for their respective offerings.

Prompters, creators, and bystanders are expected to behave in a responsible and civil manner. If the moderators have to drag someone out of the sandbox for improper behavior, we will not be amused. Please respect other people's territory and intellectual property rights, and only play with someone else's characters/setting/etc. if you have permission. (Fanfic/fanart freebies are okay.) If you want to invite folks to play with something of yours, title the comment something like "Open Playground" so it's easy to spot. This can be a good way to attract new people to a shared world or open-source project, or just have some good non-canon fun.

Boost the signal! The more people who participate, the more fun this will be. Hopefully we'll see activity from a lot of folks who regularly mention their projects in this community, but new people are always welcome. You can link to this session post or to individual items created from prompts, whatever you think is awesome enough to recommend to your friends.

Hello! I am Will, I am a 25 year old transmasc lesbian with DID who usually uses she/it pronouns. I love OCs and Will Wood (and the Tapeworms).

My current project is under the working title of "the wormverse", and an AU of the wormverse titled "the better end". I primarily host all of my stuff on Toyhou.se.

My beloved OC (and the character in my icon) is named Isaac Drover - he is a 28 year old transfem lesbian with DID who has 5 alters. He was born out of my love for Will Wood and the Tapeworms' 2nd studio album SELF-iSH, and my subsequent dissociative analysis of it. Other OCs of note that I write are Jolene Dijon, Mint Iglesias, and Seth Augury, but I have a good handful of OCs in this universe. Please heed the trigger warnings on each page where relevant.

A lot of my work focuses on several different and difficult to tackle topics such as evangelical cults, substance abuse, death of a loved one, severe trauma, and child abuse. The primary focus of the wormverse is to follow Isaac as he escapes the Church of the Divine, an evangelical cult he was born into, and becomes his own person despite the hardships he faces.

I do both writing and art for these OCs! My writing can be read on Toyhouse or on AO3 (please heed individual works' trigger warnings/tags).

I post my art on bsky sometimes, but mostly also just on Toyhouse. Here are some of my recent faves I have done:
