☆ I jinxed myself by saying I was doing a decent job keeping up with a weekly update schedule last time lmao. Basically nothing at all has been going on here though, just the same old go to work then come home and watch TV/play video games/whatever on repeat. BUT how's everyone else been doing? Hopefully things've been more exciting for y'all.
☆ Updates on stuff I've been watching... First and foremost is the Nimona movie. ♥ ♥ ♥ I read the webcomic back when it was first posted and I loved it a lot! I re-read the comic right before watching the movie so I could refresh my memory on it, and it's very different from the movie. They sort of come at the premise of the story from different angles (comic is angry and darker, movie is hopeful and light) but both are very good. I'm sooo happy Netflix saved the movie from never seeing the light of day. The animation is great, I love the style, and Nimona herself is so fun. Ballister is still my fave, they made him sooo sad wet cat in the movie sjdfjkshfs. I feel like Goldenloin got the short end of the stick in the adaptation, they took away his long hair :( and he has less to do in the movie, it feels like? LOVE them making Ballister/Goldenloin explicitly canon in-text though, doesn't have the same angsty-break-up feel as the comic but they're so cute I'm happy for them. Basically if you enjoy fun, well-animated movies about finding a place to belong, being accepted As Yourself, shapeshifters, Gender Stuff, sharks, villains who aren't really villains, or guys with cool mechanical arms, PLEASE watch Nimona.
☆ In the realm of TV, there's season 3 of The Witcher! Or the first five episodes of season 3, I hate that Netflix keeps pulling this half-assed release schedule. Either drop the whole season or do a weekly release, you can't have both lmao. Anyway I'm canon-blind to both the books and games but I've been enjoying season 3 so far. People seem to be saying it's more book accurate? (Or more book accurate than last season at least, which isn't hard considering some of the Choices they made in s2...) But I've really been enjoying the Yennefer&Ciri&Geralt family time bonding. ;3; And Jaskier finally being allowed to be bi as we all knew in our hearts. Unfortunately they are making him look the WORST he's ever looked in this season, as a sort of monkey's paw situation to slight me personally. Anyway I guess we'll have to see where the plot's actually going when the last few episodes drop, but mostly I just want to see more Ciri and her family hanging out.
☆ I also finished watching Star Trek: DS9 a little while ago! And just in time because I'm currently working my way through season 3 of Picard and what should show up this season but stuff that originated in DS9 lmao. I'm only about halfway through the season; this one seems to be all about the Next Gen cast returning haha. Love to see Worf again, non-ironically I do love that through the decades of Star Trek since Next Gen they're always like. Let's bring Worf back. But yeah we'll see where the plot goes, right now it's very much oooh there's something fucked up about this new character oooh what is it, let's drag that out for 5 episodes.
re: DS9 itself, I think I'd rank it a little below Next Gen in terms of my overall enjoyment. The original Star Trek is still my favorite, I don't think anything will dethrone that series just through it being my first Star Trek series and my love of those characters. Like Next Gen, DS9 has a fun collection of characters and as with most episodic TV shows, has a handful of excellent episodes, some really terrible episodes, and a hodgepodge of eps in-between. The ending was kind of crap with what they did to Sisko (honestly that whole plotline at the end with Dukat was dumb they should've just cut that and focused on the war), and having Julian hook up with the Jadzia replacement was suuuuch a cop-out lmao which was a bummer because Ezri was actually pretty fun. Sad we only got her for one season but thank god I didn't have to suffer witnessing multiple seasons of Ezri/Julian.
☆ Okay, phew, that's enough of that. I might do a book update next time, I've finished reading several things since last updating properly. I'm also almost done playing Persona 5 Royal!! After all this time! I'm in the additional Royal endgame area so I've beaten the OG portion of the game, wow. The finish line is in sight sjdhfksjf

I really liked Goldenloin's redesign, although I wish they'd kept his longer hair. I thought it was interesting how they coded him as Asian in the movie, too. I wonder if they based his looks on his voice actor?

Yeah I think I read somewhere they said they ended up modeling Goldenloin on Eugene once he was cast! He looks cute, I just miss the long flowing locks :c But I imagine long hair is both more costly and time-consuming to animate as well so I'm not too surprised at the redesign.
