☆ Question for those who love tracking random things as much as I do--any microblogging sites out there that you guys use for tracking media? Like I have Goodreads, Letterboxd, AniList, etc. for logging different media, but I've been thinking about having everything posted all in one place. This would be for basically no one's benefit but mine because I just like seeing everything neatly arranged with stats and all that, so I was talking with [personal profile] straightforwardly about spreadsheets because you could definitely do some cool stuff with stats that way. But even just a simple site that you could post short updates on, like Twitter except not because Twitter sucks and also because you can't tag things or go back very far on sites like Twitter.

Maybe this is what I can finally use Neocities for lmao. *has been trying to peer pressure myself into making a Neocities for months now* I guess if there's no general media tracking sites out there I can make my own simple status update page/calendar of sorts.

☆ Of course YouTube, as if reading this post I was drafting, just recommended me some journaling videos on my homepage. I've toyed with the idea of bullet journaling before, but I never actually did anything with it because I like the idea of a very neat, artsy bujo and I know I'd never actually put in the time or effort to make that sort of thing. But one of the recommended videos was by the channel Notebook Overload on commonplace books, which is a really old tradition of keeping a notebook for writing down quotes, notes, information, etc. that resonate with you or you want to keep track of. Kind of like scrapbooking but with text instead of photos. (Or in my case, a handwritten tumblr/twitter where I write down the quotes instead of reblogging them, lmao.)

I've never heard of these before but it seems really neat? And feels like it might scratch that itch of wanting a physical journal where all my previous attempts at keeping a physical planner have failed. I don't know, something to think about, I suppose. I did watch several other videos by Notebook Overload on journaling/planners because they were interesting, so I do rec the channel if you like that sort of thing! I love seeing other people's pretty planners.

It kind of feels redundant to keep a physical journal when I have all these online places to blog--this Dreamwidth, Tumblr/Twitter, all the media logging sites, the hypothetical Neocities--but I've always liked writing stuff by hand. I've written a lot of fic by hand because I enjoy the action of writing (and it forces me to edit during the process of typing up the finished fic) so I always end up coming back to the idea of keeping a paper journal. So yeah, maybe a commonplace book is the way to go. At least it'd give me an excuse to use one of the notebooks I've had lying around unused for years.

It's not micro-blogging but I put all of my book thoughts on Pillowfort, which has all the things you asked for, like tags and such. I also use Notion (here's mine) to keep track of all of my books, TV shows, etc, but I've been looking for an alternative because it doesn't have a straightforward way to make my tags into pie charts, like how many times did I use each tag and so on.

....Oooo, that's a neat idea. If you do go that route, I'd be very interested in seeing the results! I've also been toying with the idea of making a Neocities, but the eternal question is, as always, what to do with it...

I love the thought of commonplace books too! But—after a brief flirtation with madness—I managed to remind myself that I have too many journals* as it is, and don't actually have the time for yet another one. Especially since once I start thinking about organizational systems, my brain immediately goes, "oh, and then you'll need a separate one for history stuff, and then maybe break that down into further separate journals based on area of the world, oh, and then also—" and just, no, that's too much, haha. But it does get tempting, especially when I consider the ephemeral nature of social media posts.

* I have my regular journaling-journal (the oldest of the lot, as I started journaling semi-regularly in 2008, though it's been sadly neglected lately, mostly due to the following list), a reading & other media journal (my fave), a bullet journal (invaluable when it comes helping me keep my life on-track), a self-made five year journal that I started this year, and a duo of infrequently used but still active language & crafting projects journals. It's. A lot. And still I keep getting tempted to add other specialized focus journals to the pile;;;;

I've come across people keeping a bullet journal before and it seems like a good way to do things, if it works for you. The way you want to use it sounds interesting. At the very least, it's worth a shot. I like seeing other people's planners too. They really can be very pretty!

I came across a comm for journals/planners once - [community profile] journalsandplanners - IDK if it's relevant to your interests, but I thought I would pass it along anyway. :)

I use listography for a very barebones list experience due to years of sites/services made specifically for individual things falling to the wayside. Some folks use listography as a whole blogging site due to the archive feature and being able to sort things that way. As it stands, there's like three services I use for television media alone and that's a little silly so having it all in a single list on listography makes it easier.

(Plus when the services mess up the end of the year wrap, I can see that they did because I have the information right there.)

Having a personal "web page" hosted right out of a documents folder sounds like the best way though, but not easy to share with others.

Commonplace books didn't really work for me because I kept wanting to separate the content (´・ᴗ・ ` ) If it works for you, that's awesome. They have stencils and stickers you can use to help with making the information look neat as well.

I feel that separate journals thing a lot online too. (Cohost and Pillowfort were my go-to. I really liked the way Cohost has it set up too!)

At least here on Dreamwidth, I only have the one journal thanks to it being a seed account. Though I do wish I could purge every entry in it at times and start over fresh.

It might help to stick to the one though to see if you like it at any rate!
