Well. How time gets away from you!
I've got no excuse for not updating for this long except that I didn't feel like it lmao. Nothing super exciting has really been going on and I've been using most of my free time to do other things. (The renovation at work creeps ever closer to being done, and I did have fun at the anime convention I went to last month, though I was too lazy to do a write up of all the merch I got like I normally would. I did get multiple compliments on the Faye Valentine shirt that I wore haha.) I want to try to update more and get back to checking my reading list though!! I hope everyone's been doing well since I last checked in.

A few things I've been reading/watching/etc. lately...
➤ I started playing Metaphor: ReFantazio a while ago! It's slow going as I am a slow gamer but I'm currently at the 4th (?) dungeon, the one on the mustari island. I'm enjoying it so far! The gameplay is definitely just Persona 2.0 lmao but as a Persona enjoyer that is fine by me. The themes are very on the nose sgdhfs it's so funny to be running through a city and just hear some rando background NPC start shouting "EWWW AN ELDA" like okay sir. I don't even know how you can tell, like if Will just put on a hat he'd be fine. But honestly if anyone needs a big sign held up that says "Racism Is Bad" it's gamers so I'm not even going to fault them.
So far I think Junah and Hulkenberg are my faves, though Rella's design is so pretty. Hulkenberg being a Junah fangirl that likes to eat bugs and stuff is so funny, perfect character design. She and Junah should kiss. Will and Strohl should also kiss, I do enjoy Strohl too, my cute little bestie.
My biggest gripe is WHY do Eupha and Fabienne have bright green tights that don't even match the rest of their outfits. It drives me bonkers seeing them, it's so bad!!
➤ I started reading the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint Webtoon because I saw the print volumes in the library system so I was like, sure I'll see what all the fuss is about. I only read volumes 1-6 (though I think volume 7 is out in English already?) but I'm enjoying it! Somehow I didn't realize it was a death games premise before picking it up, but I also have the series muted on Tumblr because I was just seeing so much of it at one point so I guess I just never looked up the plot. Wikipedia is saying there's 10 volumes in print so far but even that seems to be a mere fraction of the actual novel so I'm like nooooo. I really want to read more but at this rate it'll take like 10 years to finish adapting lmao. "Just read the novel--" I don't want toooo it's so much faster and easier to read pictures. 😭
Anyway I feel like 6 volumes into the comic is just scratching the surface of the actual story lmao but I'm definitely curious to see where things go, even if it'll never finish.......... Dokja is such an interesting protagonist, he's nice enough but also a little ruthless in certain ways. His interactions with Joonghyuk are so funny lmao I hope they keep antagonizing each other and then make out sloppy style.
➤ I forget if I mentioned this before but Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan YA book series got an anime adaptation that aired on Netflix recently, which is the wildest thing that's ever happened. I LOVED the Leviathan books when I read them so of course I had to watch the anime immediately. Granted, I remember maybe 5% of the books since it's been 15 years since I read them, so I can't really do a comparison of what got changed, but at the very least it seems to follow the broad strokes of the series, which is a biopunk/dieselpunk WWI alternate history about the son of Archduke Franz Ferdinand and a Scottish girl who crossdresses as a boy to join the Royal Air Service aboard the bio-engineered whale airship Leviathan. Literally every word of this was like catnip to me as a youth.
The biggest issue is that they condensed three novels into a 12-episode show, which honestly I'm impressed it came out as good as it did considering that lmao. As a result it's very fast-paced, and for book fans (who actually remember the books) it probably leaves out a ton of stuff they might have wanted to see. For people with no knowledge of the books, it creates sort of a mid-tier anime that's decently entertaining to watch and has some really interesting worldbuilding, but isn't anything fantastic. At best I hope it inspires people to read the books, which go a lot more in depth about the really cool bio-engineered creatures and steampunk/dieselpunk-y mechanics.
That being said, it was a fairly nostalgic watch and I had fun with it! It's really got me itching to re-read the books lmao but I don't have time!! I guess that's one benefit of the anime, it's much faster to watch 12 episodes than it is to read three books.
➤ Did I ever talk about the absolute disappointment that was The Old Guard 2? My god...what happened here. How could they make us wait this long for a sequel only to NOT PUT OUT A COMPLETE MOVIE. Do they really think they're getting a third one!!! Barely anything happens in the movie and then it just ends on a cliffhanger. It's half a movie and it's not even that good. Of course they're going to look at the numbers of movie two and be like yeah nobody wants movie three we're not going to greenlight it.
The only good part was Quynh and Andy, even though the plot did Quynh dirty and didn't really give her anything to do. If a third movie actually does happen she and Andy better smooch. Uma Thurman was also wasted on this movie, her villain was lame as hell. How do you have Uma AND Charlize in a movie and have it be so boring. Where's the evil lesbian sexual tension.
➤ Yes, I watched Kpop Demon Hunters. Yes, I loved Kpop Demon Hunters. Yes, I've listened to the album a hundred times. It's a pretty standard plot, but the animation is gorgeousss, Sony Animation knocked it out of the park again, the characters are fun, the music slaps, and it's just an all-around good time. The only unrealistic part about it is a boy group putting out consistent bangers sjdhfkjsdfs but I guess having demonic powers helps.

Has anyone being using Focus Friend by Hank Green lmao? It's a productivity timer app for your phone, you set a time limit to not look at your phone and your little bean avatar knits socks while it's running. Then you use the socks to buy items to decorate your bean guy's room. Everyone at work started using it so I was like okay fine I'll try it lol. Haven't gotten enough socks yet to buy any decorations but it did keep me from playing on my phone while I should've been working a couple times so I guess that's good!
