☆ At last, my write up on the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth! Some random commentary from Nibelheim to the end of the game, then general ending/overall thoughts.

  • Oaughhh Vincent!! My sweet husband!! I totally didn't realize he was going to be voiced by Matt Mercer lmao. Anyway I love him sooo much I love that he still can't use technology and sleeps in a coffin for literally no reason.

  • Still so sad about Roche, how dare Hojo... That's MY overzealous stalker motorcycle boy.

  • I hate the moogles so much. I'm going to set them all on fire.

  • I love that Cid just invites himself along with the party. Like hell yeah strange man who has zero stake in all this, of course you can chill with us because you thought Aerith's mom was hot.

  • Got Aerith for the second date night too, wehhh. 🥺 Then of course I immediately looked online at all the other Gold Saucer date scenes lol the boys night out with Cid/Vincent/Cait is sooo funny I feel bad for poor Cait Sith. He was really barking up the wrong tree with a car full of men who've never enjoyed fun and whimsy in their entire lives. Yuffie and Nanaki's skywheel ride scenes were really cute, my sweet babies 😭

  • I absolutely gave up on the side quests and stuff that appear right before you have to head to the temple. I started a couple things and got that pirate compass, but then I was like what the hell am I doing and just gave up and continued the story lmao.

  • The temple section being so long when you know the end is near is a form of torture. I kept being like are we killing Aerith yet or--

  • The Cait Sith sacrifice is still so funny to me because it's a touching moment even though you know he's just a robot that can be rebuilt, only to have a totally new model just waiting outside two minutes later sjfhskjfshkjf can you give it a minute to sink in that he "died" for us. Also incredibly funny how they were so willing to forgive his betrayal because of that lmaooo.

  • By the time The Aerith Scene arrives it's not even sad anymore sjfjkshdfsjk it's just like are we there yet... I guess if you don't know it's coming it'd still be impactful (do people still go into this unspoiled? it seems impossible to avoid). It definitely ruined my life the first time I played as a child!!

  • I do love the cool combos and synergies and battle team up cutscenes in this game, I forget if I mentioned it before. Everyone looks really cool! I love seeing their personalities come through in the team ups! (Aerith and Barret with the sunglasses and the posing + Aerith and Nanaki where she whips him around on the end of a magic string were so funny.)

  • I kind of whizzed through the end of this game uncomprehending what is happening lmao it was just like yeah okay Zack's here, okay we're fighting Sephiroth, okay Aerith isn't dead. But now it's over the end.

Ending thoughts: I don't think any of the Zack timeline stuff really needed to be added? Unless they're planning on doing something big in game 3, it's sort of just like...was that just so we could see Zack some more lmao. I'm not 100% on what they're doing with Aerith either, I assumed she was dead and Cloud is just in such denial he's basically hallucinating her, which would fit what we see EXCEPT for that one bit in the final scene where she's standing near Tifa and Nanaki and he seems to be able to sense her presence? SO DOES THAT MEAN SHE WAS REALLY THERE. (Also ughhhh Tifa being so torn up about Aerith's death, kill me now 😭)

I suppose they may do something with the way Aerith seems to be able to manipulate these timelines to have her show up in the next game, but nothing they've said until now seems to indicate that they'd change canon so much as to keep Aerith alive. I think Cloud hallucinating Aerith would be a perfectly fine excuse to put her in part 3 for a bit, considering everything that's wrong with him sjhfskjfsk

Overall, I had a fun time with the game. The character interactions--getting their help in side quests, the synergy moves, more cutscenes where they interact with each other--were the highlight to me, I love these characters a lot and I think this remake has been doing a good job with them. I cannot wait to get Cid and Vincent integrated into the party and see their sad backstories and everything!!! Squeenix let me remove Cloud from my party so I can have my ideal childhood squad of Cid, Vincent, and Yuffie 🔫 Oh wait Cloud does fall into a coma for part of the game lmao maybe I'll get my chance then. Squeenix I'm watching you 🔫

The parts that dragged the worst were all the repetitive side questssss my god, I don't know how they're going to be able to fit in the rest of the og plot into part 3 if they keep that level of filler? So I can only hope that means part 3 isn't so side quest heavy lmao. Like I don't mind fun little one-offs (we had BETTER be snowboarding next game) but if I have to catch one more moogle I WILL commit unspeakable crimes.

My friend also got me to start RPing again so I'm back in the Cid/Vincent quicksand trap of my youth. If I can ever make it out of the Charon/Hermes fic pit I'm currently trapped in, I might go looking for Valenwind fic jshfskjds look we gotta cope with how long we'll have to wait for part 3 somehow.

☆ Since finishing Rebirth I'm not sure what I want to start playing next, so I've sort of been ping-pong-ing between just playing more Hades and Honkai Star Rail.

I ended up not buying Hades 2 early access yet and am working on getting more done in Hades past the true ending. Relationship building, side stories, all that. I finally got Meg's relationship meter unlocked so she only needs a couple more ambrosia, but Thanatos continues to require more hangouts ヾ(`ヘ´)ノ゙ I've developed a Pavlovian response to the bell noise that signals his arrival in the middle of a run at this point. And I still have to fix the Achilles/Patroclus situation, just let me help you idiots!! And as mentioned above I've been reading a ridiculous amount of Charon/Hermes fic for some reason lmao I just love them...but also it's really been eating into my real book reading time, I have so many library books languishing because of them!!

Honkai I'm trying to catch up with the main storyline I really am, but I always get so distracted with side quests and events and stuff sdfhsjfhskf I'm still dealing with the Xianzhou Luofu story. We're going to go disable some big smokey crucible next I think. I haven't even gotten to the Dan Heng backstory yet!! I just want to get through all this and get to Penacony... ON THE PLUS SIDE I pulled Boothill without too much jade expenditure wahoo!! All my other 5-star Honkai pull attempts may have eluded me but at least I have the cyborg cowboy. Don't know anything about him but I looove his design.

☆ I was just made aware that the Backloggery revamp is live at last! So I spruced up my profile and cleaned up my currently playing games a bit. If anyone wants to add me, feel free! I'm not super active on there, mostly I just log in when I need to add a new game I beat, but I like to see what other people are playing. :3

I had a moment of confusion when I clicked on your profile (feat. "wait, I thought we were already friends on Backloggery?") before I realized you'd also used the username change option! That option is genuinely what I was most excited about with the Backloggery revamp, haha. I've been waiting on it for... possibly nearly a decade at this point. It bothered me that my account still featured my old fandom username (....especially since I'm friends with my brother on that site, and while I trust him not to snoop, I do Not want anyone from my irl to have any connection to my fandom activities), so I'm so so so glad I could change it, finally.

I use the site semi-regularly, I'd say? I love the stats and seeing what other people are playing. There's a couple of things I don't like about the revamp, but overally, I'm more happy with it than not.

You can leave school behind you, but the inner history major will always remain! /was a history major, haha

In regards to Backloggery: So, I do really really like the way you can break down your history by year, but I wish that there still was an option to see all of your history at once. I often used ctrl+f on my memory card on the old site to look up when I first played a game, but if I wanted to do that now, I'd literally have to search year by year, which is more time-consuming.

Similarly, I like that we now have more text for our updates, but I dislike that expanding your own update takes you straight to the editing area instead of showing you the full text the way it would appear if you clicked expand on an update on someone else's profile. (...I have no idea if the formulation of that sentence makes sense, but idk how else to phrase it right now. Hopefully you get what I mean!)

I'm also not wild about how the private notes from the old site have just been combined with whatever you had in the update field. Like... I put those things in the private notes section for a reason? And I can't remember all the games I had private notes for, so it's not like hunting them down and removing them from public view would be an easy task. I only realized that happened in the first place because I happened to have a game on my "currently playing" list that I had private notes for.

But overall, I do like the update! Just that those things aren't working for me.

In regards to Ace Attorney: yes, this is my first time playing it! Apparently, the original trilogy is now free on Playstation Plus or—something similar, idk exactly what subscription my brother has. In any case, my brother played them, he loved them, and now he wants the two of us to play through them together. (We hang out about once a week; historically, that time has mostly been used to watch anime or play card games, but this year we've started playing longer games together too.)

Anyways, all that tl;dr aside, while I'm not that far into the first game yet, I've really enjoyed what I've seen! Very fun, very delightful, very charming. Also, when my brother was pitching the idea of playing it to me, he was also all, 'I'm pretty sure you're going to love Edgeworth; he's exactly your kind of character', which... between what I've seen so far and what I've osmosised from fandom, I'm fairly certain he's going to be proved right, haha.

is it actually public or does it just look public when you're logged into your own account?

I didn't check through an incognito window, but I feel pretty sure that it was, because it was all in the same text field. I only noticed this because I happen to be playing Stardew Valley lately, and with that game, I'd used the private notes field to "save" my last posted update for each save file. So when the site updated, instead of having just
Year 1 → Yet another new farm! Maybe one day I'll actually stick to a single file to 100%...
in my updates field, I had
Year 1 → Yet another new farm! Maybe one day I'll actually stick to a single file to 100%...

Year 3 → Married Sebastian. Focusing on restoring the Community Center.

Year 1 → started a new file to romance Abigail with. Monster Farm time!
all together in the same editing field.

maybe leaving feedback/suggestions through the contact form will help?

Ohhh, that's a good idea! Maybe I will do that.

Finally, I've never heard of the Great Ace Attorney games, but your description of them is very /eyes emoji for me! I love 19th century settings like 99% of the time, and that + Ace Attorney sounds quite promising.
